Created during a residency at Burns Pinion Ridge Reserve, Molds presents new works by Zebulon Zang that engage the desert’s shifting ecology and the remains of its built environment. Fragments from abandoned structures—scattered by wind and weather—reappear here as both material and idea.

The exhibition includes sculptures, wall reliefs, and paintings. Cast-off aluminum is melted and recast into new forms; facsimiles of cardboard boxes double as plinth and object. Metal wall pieces extend the logic of drip and pour painting into relief, suspending gestures in solid form. Compost paintings, marked by the slow decomposition of organic matter, register natural processes as active agents.

Through these works, Zang examines how matter moves, mutates, and endures. The project approaches making as collaboration with the desert’s own forces of erosion and renewal.
